Who is the best golfer of all time?

When it comes to tough questions, trying to answer who is the greatest golfer of all time is one of the hardest. Who is the best golfer of all time?

Arguably one of the best of all time The Golden Bear, Jack Nichlaus, is the winningest in golf history with 73 PGA Tour wins and 18 major tour wins under his belt, the retired golfer gives Tiger a solid run for his money. Still on the circuit is golf veteran Tom Watson, consistently ranking as fourth in the world by most senior golf stats. His stellar career in the 1970s-80s including 5 Open Championship wins make him a strong contender for this list.

Fred Couples, Gary Player, Jordan Speith, Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose are all deserving of a mention here too. Tough they would be hard pressed to top Nichlaus or Woods in this category, all are major tour winners with massive strings to their golfing bows.

The golf world might still be coming-of-age in its inclusion of top-tier female players, but a couple are deserving of a mention. One of the winningest players in LPGA history, Annika Sorenstam won 73 times, and was the first female player since 1945 to line up alongside male players at the PGA Tour’s Colonial Tournament. Mickey Wright and Kathy Whitworth who topped the Ladies’ tables in the 1960’s were also major forces to be reckoned with on the green.

The player that might these days stir up the most controversy but whose ability cannot be argued with is Tiger Woods. Though his personal fall from grace seems to have resulted in a lacklustre current-day professional performance, Woods cannot be denied a place in the annals of the history books as this author’s pick as one of, if not the greatest golf player of all time.
